How Stripe payment detection stops invoice reminders

Optional Stripe payment detection marks a matching invoice paid and stops its remaining reminders only when the amount matches exactly. An 'I already paid' reply is an awkward way to discover your records are behind. Detection can close that gap for matching Stripe payments while leaving uncertain ones for your review. Setup uses a webhook in your Stripe dashboard; DueBuzz holds no API key, cannot see your balance and cannot move money. PayPal payments and bank transfers still need a manual mark-paid.
Connect detection separately from adding an invoice
Adding Stripe as the invoice's billing method does not by itself enable detection. Create a webhook in your own Stripe dashboard and paste its signing secret into DueBuzz using the payment detection setup.
You can use DueBuzz without detection and mark invoices paid yourself. Adding a payment link includes that link in reminder emails. It does not make DueBuzz a payment processor.
How a payment identifies the invoice
A Stripe Payment Link added to an invoice is tagged with that invoice in every reminder. A payment through that tagged link can close the correct invoice even when the payer uses a different email address. The amount must still match exactly.
Your invoice number can identify the exact invoice. When the same client owes the same amount on more than one invoice, the oldest closes first if an exact invoice has not been identified.
- Add your invoice number when entering an invoice.
- Add the invoice's Stripe Payment Link if you want it in reminder emails.
- Check that the recorded amount matches the payment expected.
What happens to part payments and uncertain matches?
An uncertain payment closes nothing. This includes a part payment, a payment with a card fee added, or an unknown payer that cannot be matched with certainty. DueBuzz emails you who paid what, with a confirmation option when the invoice is clear.
If an invoice remains open while you check a payment, you can pause its reminders or use review-before-sending. Once you mark it paid, the remaining reminders stop.
Refunds and disputes do not restart reminders
DueBuzz emails you about refunds and disputes on a detected payment. The invoice remains paid. It is not reopened automatically. You can reopen it yourself if needed.
Which payments still need a manual update?
Payments to PayPal invoices, PayPal payment links and PayPal.me are marked paid by hand. Bank transfers and PDF invoices also use manual mark-paid. DueBuzz has no bank connection.
You can still schedule email reminders for these invoices. Reminder support and automatic payment detection are separate capabilities.
